A selected membership and clubhouse in downtown Kitchener for founders, operators and students making something real, with Wednesday sessions open to anyone.

Its members are founders, operators, independent builders and students, and every one of them applied. Members who are not in Waterloo full-time stay part of it through Slack, Builder Circles and Hive, which matches members one on one.

To join, you fill out one short form, with no referral or pitch deck, and a person reads every application. Professional applications are open on a rolling basis, and student applications are taken by term. Applying costs nothing, and you can walk into a Wednesday session before you decide.

Jesse Rodgers founded Builders Club. You can book a chat with him before you apply. Builders Club runs a fund, Barn Ventures, which writes first cheques of $50K USD, often before a pitch deck exists.

CommuniHacks Hackathon

Builders Club, 165 King St W, Kitchener, ON

Mission CommuniHacks is a 24-hour hackathon where students build technology to solve real problems faced by local nonprofits and community organizations. By bringing together developers, designers, and innovators, the event creates a space where technology can directly support the needs of the community. Throughout the event, mentors support teams as they develop projects that combine creativity, technical skill, and meaningful impact. How CommuniHacks Works At the start of the event, local nonprofit and community organizations present problems they are currently facing. Then, each team selects one of these problems, and spends the next 24 hours designing and building a software solution. If a team's solution is strong, the partnering organization will invite them to keep building together after the event to fully integrate their solution. Project Themes Each partner organization provides a unique challenge based on an issue they face, related to healthcare, education, finance, sustainability, or accessibility. Teams work closely with these partnering organizations to create practical solutions that can help organizations better serve their communities. Projects are evaluated based on impact, creativity, technical execution, and how effectively they address the chosen challenge.
