A Waterloo Region network of angels, family offices and funds whose members invest in Canadian tech startups, from pre-seed to Series A.
GTAN (the Golden Triangle Angel Network) is a non-profit community of angels, super angels, family offices and venture funds in Waterloo Region. It says it has invested in Canadian tech from pre-seed to Series A since 2008, and that its members have put $150M of local angel capital into over 250 companies. Evan Clark, its Executive Director, manages its operations and deal flow.
Each member writes their own cheque, and together they average $350k per investment. Accredited investors can join for $1750 a year, and GTAN suggests coming to a monthly investment meeting as a guest first.
Founders apply for the Pitch Path through the Apply for Funding form on its site. A round that already has a strong lead can use the Accelerated Path, where the founder asks a Canadian investor to refer it. Ventures from outside Canada that need a Startup Visa have their own application.
What it invests in
Pitch Path: angel, pre-seed and seed rounds of $750k to $5MM, with at least $300k left on the round
Accelerated Path: typically seed to Series A rounds no larger than $15M, at a valuation under $50MM, with a strong lead investor secured
Accelerated Path rounds average $500k from members (up to $1.5M), within 3 weeks of the pitch
Software, hardware, deep tech, medtech, quantum and more; B2B is preferred
Canadian tech companies that are ready for due diligence
Startup Visa investments for ventures from outside Canada, as an accredited angel group
