About Us: At Rodan Energy, our mission is Making Sustainable, Attainable. As a leading North American energy services company, we provide innovative energy solutions that help clients reduce energy costs and GHG emissions, support electrification, and enhance grid efficiency. With over 20 years of expertise, we’re trusted by North America’s largest energy users, power producers, and utilities.

Top Talent & Strong Culture: Collaborate with high-performing, passionate individuals who are committed to excellence and sustainability. What Makes This Role Great:
Hands-On Technical Leadership: Set the technical direction for Rodan's Databricks data platform while staying hands-on with the pipelines, building on the ingestion foundation already in place.
Built for Growth: Rodan is building out its central data platform to support a goal of 10x revenue growth in 5 years, centered on energy market optimization across IESO, AESO, PJM, NYISO, MISO, and ERCOT.
Real Ownership and Visibility: Own the architecture, standards, and governance that the business relies on, and show senior leadership what new products and capabilities the platform can unlock.
Modern Data Stack: Work in Databricks (Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, serverless compute, Lakeflow Connect/Auto Loader, MLflow, Genie) with Python/PySpark and SQL, deployed via Asset Bundles.
Complex, Interesting Data: Multi-market electricity data covering demand response, coincident peaks, settlements, and asset optimization, plus a growing set of vendor feeds.
Key Responsibilities:
Hands-On Build
Get up to speed on the existing automated ingestion pipelines and extend them to meet growing requests for new data
Take ownership of our existing automated ingestion pipelines and expand them to meet growing demand for new data sources
Build and maintain bronze/silver ingestion and transformation pipelines across core sources: market data, facility data, and a growing set of vendor feeds (weather, forward curves, broker statements)
Work directly in Databricks using PySpark notebooks, Delta Lake, Databricks Jobs/Asset Bundles, and serverless compute
Establish and apply ingestion patterns (Auto Loader, sliding-window MERGE, versioned-forecast handling) as new sources are onboarded
Monitor data flows so data arrives on time, with alerting that notifies downstream teams such as Energy Markets when there are interruptions
Implement automated data quality checks on incoming data so reports and models can be trusted
Make data transformations more efficient to reduce platform processing costs Architecture, Governance & Standards
Own bronze/silver/gold architecture decisions, including schema conventions, naming standards, and the table ownership model
Establish a governance model where every dataset has a clear owner, keeping curated data in the silver and gold layers and raw data out of business reporting
Manage access controls so people only see the data they should, while keeping data easy to find and trusted
Plan how platform data and dashboards can be integrated with other systems and securely shared with customers
Scope and cost-estimate the onboarding of new data sources (SFTP, API, vendor CSV drops)
Review cross-source data quality and lineage as the platform grows Collaboration & Communication
Work with external data providers and vendors, representing Rodan in those conversations
Demonstrate and explain what the platform makes possible to senior leadership and other non-technical audiences
Explore and introduce new Databricks capabilities, such as AI agents, that create new value from Rodan's data
Set the technical bar and share best practices on notebook and pipeline conventions
Required Skills and Qualifications:
5+ years of data engineering experience, including a track record of technical leadership such as architecture decisions, standards-setting, or mentoring other engineers
Hands-on experience delivering a data warehouse, data lake, or lakehouse project that centralized data from many sources for reporting, analytics, or machine learning
Deep hands-on experience with Databricks (strong experience with a comparable platform such as Snowflake may be considered)
Solid understanding of medallion (bronze/silver/gold) architecture patterns
Strong Python and SQL skills, with experience owning ETL/ELT pipelines end-to-end, from raw ingestion (API, SFTP, file drops) through to modelled, analytics-ready tables
Experience designing schema and table conventions and data models that other teams build on, with an eye to how the platform scales as new sources are added
Confidence being the most senior technical voice in the room from day one, while staying genuinely hands-on with code
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to business stakeholders, senior leaders, and external vendors
Preferred Qualifications:
Databricks certification, such as the Databricks Azure Platform Architect accreditation or Data Engineer Professional
Experience with energy markets, trading, or utility data (not required; the domain is learnable)
Leadership qualities and an interest in growing into a leadership role, such as leading projects or mentoring engineers
