About us
TitanFile's mission is to democratize secure client communication. This is a challenge worthy of pursuit! The costs and risks associated with complex projects like litigation, processing insurance claims, and conducting regulatory investigations are skyrocketing as the amount of data increases. TitanFile is transforming these processes so they can be done in minutes, not days, by anyone, anywhere. As a result, our customers, who range from financial institutions to law firms and from government agencies to higher education, can service their clients faster with the privacy and security that they expect.
What we need:
TitanFile is looking for a Software Engineer who is personable, persistent, and confident. A person who is passionate about learning new technologies and improving the skills they already have. A person who wants their work to stand for something. A person able to juggle multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision. This person will join our engineering team and will build, test, and maintain the server, web, and mobile applications our customers rely on to exchange sensitive information. The role covers the full development cycle, from specification and coding through testing, release, monitoring, and documentation. Our customers hold us to a high bar. TitanFile is SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 certified, and we are pursuing FedRAMP certification to serve the U.S. federal market. The right software engineer will appreciate the importance of security, availability, usability, and performance in software systems, and will not be afraid to use cutting-edge technology to solve mission-critical enterprise problems. We expect our engineers to work fluently with AI tooling and to apply the same engineering judgment to what it produces as they would to their own work. TitanFile offers an incredible opportunity for a Software Engineer to learn and grow, while being part of an awesome growing team in Toronto.
What you'll do:
Write, modify, integrate, and test software code for our server, web, and mobile applications
Conduct manual and automated tests, and analyze data to monitor quality, security, and user experience and to identify areas for improvement
Monitor the functionality of the application, and identify and resolve issues and bugs
Assist in the development of logical and physical specifications
Assess the connections between programs to determine whether a proposed change in one area could affect another related area
Program animation and interactive features for web and mobile applications
Identify and communicate technical problems, processes, and solutions
Prepare reports, manuals, and other documentation on the status, operation, and maintenance of the web application, and document new and updated software
Research and evaluate a variety of software products
Use AI tooling to work faster across coding, testing, and documentation, while holding a high bar for what gets merged and deployed
Skills:
Positivity, passion, and creativity for what we do
Execution-oriented, and energized by a fast-paced startup environment
Hustle, persistence, and love for excellence and innovation
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, or Computer Engineering
Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in software development
Professional experience building web applications and RESTful APIs with Python and Django
Professional experience building front-end applications with JavaScript or TypeScript and React
Experience designing and querying relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitLab CI
Experience deploying and running applications on Linux and AWS
Experience writing automated tests with frameworks such as PyTest or Jest
Experience developing and testing applications in Docker
Experience applying secure coding practices, including the OWASP Top 10, authentication, role-based access control, and API security
Must be able and willing to lawfully work out of our Toronto, Ontario office
Fluent written and verbal communication in English
Nice to have:
Experience building integrations or add-ins for Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft 365
Experience with infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform
Experience with Azure
Experience building software that handles sensitive or regulated data
Experience working under a compliance program such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, or FedRAMP
Experience working in an Agile or Scrum team
Fluent use of AI coding assistants, with the judgment to review, test, and challenge generated code

Why Waterloo Region Startups Move to Toronto, Move to the Valley, or Stay
I followed 30 companies that started in Waterloo Region. Most of them are still here, and their founders give the people around them a lot of the credit for that choice. Six of the seven that moved to Silicon Valley went through Y Combinator first, and three moved to Toronto.
